Hey everyone,
In case you didn't know, I'm a 3rd year medical student at the Island Medical Program in Victoria. I've volunteered with the Run for Rural Med in the past and having grown up in a small rural town, Hope Air is a charity I am happy to support and fundraise for, as I know how challenging it can be for families to travel such long distances to access supports and medical care in bigger centers. I can only imagine the stress that financial difficulties and a new medical diagnosis might add to this. Despite all the many amazing benefits that exist living in rural and remote communities, one major downside is that access to higher level medical equipment, teams and facilities is not available locally. I hope you will consider supporting Hope Air to help those that need financial aid in traveling for medical care they can not access in their home community.
Our individual team members have combined digital forces to create this awesome fundraising team.
We are taking part in the UBC Run & Ride for Rural Medicine to help patients get to life-saving medical care.
Why? Because, all Canadians should have equal access to medical care, but not everyone does. For those who live in communities that do not offer specialized care, cost and distance are huge barriers to reaching medical treatments and appointments.
Funds raised will allow Hope Air to provide free medical travel for patients in financial need.
The pandemic has not stopped cancer, heart disease, or any of the other serious illnesses requiring urgent care. Now more than ever, patients struggle to get to medical care due to financial hardship. Families should not have to choose between medical care, food, and rent, but many will have to make those choices without your help.

All too often, barriers of cost and distance prevent patients from getting specialized medical care in expensive cities far from home. But this barrier must be overcome; delays in treatment can cause unnecessary pain, untreated disease and permanent disability.
Hope Air is Canada's only national charity providing free travel and accommodations for Canadians in financial need who must access specialized medical care far from home.
In 1986, our first flight enabled a patient to travel for cancer treatment. Since then, Hope Air has arranged more than 160,000 travel arrangements for patients of any age, with any illness that is covered by the patients’ provincial health plans.
